Zacchaeus risks everything to get to meet Jesus, and gives up everything to get to follow Him. He becomes desperate for the love and freedom that Jesus offers.
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners” Isaiah 61:1 There is that iconic moment in Braveheart where Mel Gibson’s character shouts, “They may take our lives, but they’ll never take our FREEDOM!”.
